Operation Safe Driver Week will be October 15 to October 21, 2017. According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, law enforcement officials throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada will be working to increase traffic enforcement for commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicles.
CVSA established the annual OSD week dedicated to combating unsafe driving to keep commercial and passenger vehicles safe and decrease the number of accidents, injuries and deaths that take place each year.
The 2016 breakdown of OSD week’s 20,648 citations issued:
56.7% – State and Local Moving Violations (unsafe lane changes for example)
19.6% – Speeding
7.6% – Failure to Obey Traffic Control Devices
7.1% – Failing to Use Seatbelt
2.4% – Using Handheld Phone
A final aspect of Operation Safe Driving Week include safety programs to educate drivers on transportation safety.
