September 11-17, 2022 is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week — a week dedicated to spotlighting all the time and hard work truck drivers put into their jobs so the United States can function better as a whole. This is a great time to thank truck drivers that you know and love.

There are more than 3.5 million truck drivers that deliver 80 percent of our nation’s goods. Without truckers, the majority of Americans wouldn’t have access to most out-of-market items. Imagine living in a place that didn’t have the natural resources to produce milk – without truck drivers, you would never be able to drink it!

Another reason to thank a truck driver? Truck driving generates around $650 billion dollars per year – about 5 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product! And one out of every 14 Americans work for the trucking industry.

Not to mention, 90 percent of the trucking industry is made up of small businesses with ten trucks or less. Truck driver appreciation week is a great time to thank your local truck driver for not only their contributions to the economy but also to small business culture!

Driving truck isn’t an easy thing to do. Truck drivers work long hours and are often away from their families for several weeks at a time. The average long-haul truck driver logs over 100,000 miles each year!
