Clean energy projects worldwide are rapidly creating new jobs in the construction industry. Reports from the Department of Energy and UC Berkeley last month indicate that developments in both wind and solar energy are poised to generate construction projects in the next few years.
The DOE reported that 43 percent of new energy generation in the United States last year was due to onshore wind turbines. They estimate that this surge in wind energy will be responsible for approximately 80,000 new jobs in addition to jobs created to manufacture the components of the turbines themselves.
Another source of green energy construction jobs is the SunShot initiative. SunShot, introduced by the Obama administration, is intended to promote research and development of solar power technology to create a low-cost alternative to fossil fuels. As with wind energy, the initiative will also create manufacturing jobs for production of solar panels and other technology as well as positions in R&D.
